Sugarloaf Mountain

Our last stop of the day was Sugarloaf Mountain. This uniquely shaped mountain can be seen from almost anywhere in Rio.

Once there, you can ride a cable car to the top, with a stop halfway up along the way. Up until now, the day has been mostly sunny - except for a little early morning haze. It has been beautiful. However, on our drive to Sugarloaf Mountain, the clouds moved in very quickly and enshrouded the mountain so that you could no longer see it from the ground. We took a chance that when we got up to the top the clouds would part and it would become clear again, revealing the spectacular views. Guilherme said that sometimes it happens where the clouds move in quickly, and then move out again just as quickly.

When we got to the stop at the halfway point, the clouds were so heavy that we couldn't see the ground. But we waited, and there was a parting of the clouds from time to time. When the clouds parted, you had to take pictures quickly, because a minute or two later, the cloud cover was back. Here are some views we took from the point at the cable car stop halfway up Sugarloaf Mountain.

We continued the cable car ride to the top. The top of Sugarloaf Mountain is 1200 feet elevation. We walked around and took pictures of the spectacular views.

Me and our amazing tour guide, Guilherme

After leaving Sugarloaf Mountain, we returned to our hotel. We saw all the things we had on our list, and had a wonderful time. Guilherme was great and we were so lucky to have him as our tour guide. If you're ever planning to visit Rio, let us know and we will hook you up with Guilherme!
