To Tierra del Fuego and back again

Did you ever hear about a place and were so fascinated by it that you thought it would be an awesome place to visit? When I learned about Tierra del Fuego in a Coastal Geomorphology class in college, I was fascinated by it and never thought I would actually have a chance to travel there someday. Tierra del Fuego is located at the very southern tip of South America, in an area sometimes called "The Edge of the Earth." It is near a city called Ushuaia, which bills itself as the "End of the world; Beginning of Everything."

We will be taking a South American cruise on a journey to "The Edge of the Earth". Before we begin the cruise, we will travel to Rio de Janeiro and then spend a day in Buenos Aires on our own, before we board the cruise ship. You are invited to join the adventure as we view the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio, walk in the footsteps of Evita Peron in Argentina, tango with the locals in Montevideo, enjoy a Welsh tea in Puerto Madryn, journey through Patagonia, ride the wild seas of the southern Atlantic Ocean, trek out to the Falkland Islands, sail around the tip of Cape Horn, tour fascinating Tierra del Fuego, explore the Straits of Magellan, cruise through the Chilean fjords, admire the Andes, and ascend the slopes of Valparaiso in a funicular - more or less.

As I have done in the past, I will be keeping a blog as we travel to the End of the World - or is it the Beginning of Everything? Stay tuned. The adventure begins Dec. 1.

  4. Tirerra del Fuego means land of fire. A name that was give because of the many fires that the natives had lit there
